Linda Davies
Participating in We Live With The Land & The Land as Other
Linda Davies is a Welsh printmaker /mixed-media artist based in Snowdonia, North Wales. Recent work has been a response to a specific environment - in particular, the forest surrounding her studio at Hafod y Llyn - and the experience of living and creating within it. To her, the forest is a microcosm of life, a place where nature mirrors the human condition and its cycle of life, decay and renewal, both physical and psychological. A previous Assistant Co-ordinator at The Regional Print Centre, Wrexham and for many years lecturer in Fine Art at Bangor University she is currently printmaking lecturer at Coleg Meirion Dwyfor, Dolgellau and runs her own workshops in printmaking, book arts and mixed-media drawing.
‘My work often deals with concepts of time and place. Integral to these concerns is the exploration of associations held in the land, and the impact of nature and human intervention upon it. Impressions, markings, found objects reflect these effects on the landscape and provide inspiration for my work. Working intuitively, I enjoy the diversity of using a multi-media approach, combining various processes in my printmaking. I feel this resonates with the multi-layered nature of both individual and collective memory.’
