Linda Davies : Sense of place, sensing place, sensing

The retreat provided a time to reconnect after the last two years of a more isolated time apart. Discussions, presented talks, working together, ignited a renewed interest and enthusiasm for exploration. Morning writing sessions with writer Jill Teague were a reminder of the powerful process of creating a focus. The ‘alert aloneness’ exercise in particular provided a rich and intense period of immersion in the land.

Day One: River Walk

Spending time with vessel shaped rock pools. I am often drawn to reflective surfaces.

Short video sequences captured fleeting moments. Creating layers of memory and association.

Back in the studio washes of tusche flow in seductive granular pools in varying gradients of tone. Drawing from memory - collect, recollect, not a literal rendition of the landscape but sensing of place.
